Internal Funding

The CUNY Junior Faculty Research Award in Science and Engineering program (JFRASE) aims to cultivate excellence and ensure the promise of research-intensive early career science and engineering faculty at CUNY. It is expected that this early career opportunity will advance the research program of the faculty recipients through boosting their research productivity and accelerating their ability to attract significant external funding.

The CUNY Office of Research Planning Grant Program seeks to catalyze collaborative grant-seeking and encourage a culture of multidisciplinary, convergent, team-based science, with potential to transform the University. Professional Development

Through its fellowships, the brings together  scholars from within and outside CUNY and CUNY doctoral students to focus on key areas of intellectual and public policy concern – immigration, inequality, multilingualism and the digital humanities.  Tenured CUNY faculty may apply for a Distinguished CUNY Fellowship at the ARC, which provides up to three course releases per semester for a maximum of two semesters.

The CUNY Innovative Teaching Academy, established in 2020, aims to improve pedagogy at scale and recognize excellence and innovation in teaching by CUNY faculty. The Academy is predicated on the recognition that the quality of pedagogy and access to high-impact practices has a direct and measurable impact on the quantity and quality of degrees produced by CUNY and the ability of CUNY graduates to be well-positioned for meaningful careers and further study.

TLH in a Box goes beyond becoming part of City University of New York’s infrastructure and integrating the humanities into our fellows’ and students’ future work and education to expand our reach to other institutions, administrators, faculty, and students.

Diversifying CUNY’s Leadership: A CUNY-Harvard Consortium is a professional development program for CUNY faculty and staff who are interested in a career in higher education leadership – with a particular emphasis on those interested in leadership positions within CUNY.  The program, which aims to cultivate a diverse group of future leaders, supports and celebrates CUNY’s commitment to a diverse community that is inclusive of all groups and individuals. Funding Fridays was a research development webinar series offered by the CUNY Office of Research.

The Mid-Career Faculty Fellowship Program aims to advance CUNY’s goal of retaining and advancing a diverse faculty by providing support and resources to help tenured Assistant and Associate Professors advance their scholarly productivity and move toward promotion. The program supports CUNY’s commitment to academic excellence and “equal access and opportunity for students, faculty and staff from all ethnic and racial groups” and sexes. During the spring 2016 semester, the Office of Academic Affairs piloted Moving from Associate to Full Professor, a workshop series and funding opportunity for CUNY Associate Professors. The program was offered again in spring 2017. This program is not accepting applications at this time.

The William P. Kelly Research Fellowship Program aims to advance research and scholarship of tenured community college faculty at CUNY.

With generous support from the Mellon Foundation, CUNY piloted The CUNY Leadership Institute (TCLI) for Urban-Serving Institutions with the goal of strengthening the higher education leadership pipeline for the nation’s urban-serving institutions by developing diverse higher education leaders, with a particular emphasis on those with a background in the Arts and Humanities.
