CUNY is committed to supporting all members of our community, regardless of immigration status.

CUNY is deeply committed to protecting our immigrant and non-citizen students to the fullest extent of the law. The University serves students across varying and changing statuses such as, but not limited to, Lawful Permanent Residents, International and Exchange Student Visas, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), Temporary Protective Status (TPS), Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS), Asylums and Refugees, and those in mixed status families.

Consistent with existing CUNY policy, law enforcement access to our campuses will only be permitted when required by a judicial warrant, signed by a judge, or a court order. Should a law enforcement agent request access to a campus, College Public Safety should be immediately contacted so they can review credentials and paperwork. Public Safety will consult with the campus Legal Affairs Office. Campus counsel will confirm that the credentials of law enforcement are in order to access school or college facilities and/or records.

Each CUNY campus has a designated immigrant success liaison and seven colleges also have an immigrant student success center or support initiative. In addition, members of the CUNY community and all New Yorkers can find free, confidential immigrant legal services help at CUNY Citizenship Now!

A new rapid response legal resource is now available for those who have been impacted by immigration policy changes, are facing issues traveling in and out of the country or have been detained by law enforcement. Learn more here.
